By law, you have a general duty to ensure that the health and safety of your employees and members of the public is not put at risk as a result of the work that your employees do and this includes when they’re using transport at work (such as forklift trucks and cranes) or driving on a public highway. Any use of workplace transport or driving for work should be subject to risk assessment. The process of risk assessment should confirm and clarify the hazards and the risk to both employees and members of the public. It will also identify those control actions that are in place and determine whether they’re sufficient – if not additional control strategies will need to be implemented. It also goes without saying that you must maintain your work transport in safe working order and in good repair. You’ll find useful information and documentation here to guide you through your duties in relation to work transport and driving.
