Daniel is an expert in serious fraud matters and has represented clients in a number of very high profile and complex cases. These cases have involved many millions of pounds in value arising from investigations over numerous years. They invariably produce hundreds of thousands of pages of evidence. Daniel has worked on several multi million pound fraud cases, including a multinational VAT fraud which was one of the highest value frauds ever brought to trial.
Daniel has regularly been consulted by the media and has been interviewed on BBC Radio 4 as well as a number of other radio stations and publications (including The Times). He was recently consulted by Hugh Pym, Chief Economics Editor for the BBC over the publication by the Chelsea Building Society of the provisions it had made for fraud against it.
Daniel represents defendants in all areas of criminal law in both the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. He also works closely with Ian Lewis, Deidre Scott and Imran Khan in defending serious fraud cases.
Significant Cases
- Operation Inertia (2009-present) defending in an alleged £120 million international VAT fraud
- R V Tunney & Others (2009-2010) Successfully acting for a defendant in a million pound European match funding fraud.
- Operation Humidity (2007 – 2009). Successful defence of lady accused of being knowingly involved in a £1.7m VAT fraud.
- Operation Emersed (2003 - 2006) - Defending on the highest value VAT frauds, with an international dimension involving multi million pound movements of mobile phones
- R V Papworth (2003 - 2005) - Defending in a complex multi million pound fraud against O2
- R V Backry & others (2006) - Defending in a large scale credit card and banking fraud, involving serious organised crime agency surveilance, people smuggling and passport forgery
- R V Law (2007) - Representing the lead defendant in a multi national cannabis importing case involving the smuggling of over 15 tonnes of cannabis. This case involved evidence from Spain, including wire-taps and high level surveilence
- R V Nelson & Others (2006 - 2007) - Defending an allegation of fraud by a leading training provider. This was a complex matter involving an abusive process argument about the way in which the case had been prosecuted
