Professional Profile
Daniel is an expert in Serious Fraud matters and has represented clients in number very high profile and complex cases, often being of value of many millions of pounds arising from investigations over a number of years and involving tens or hundreds of thousands of pages of evidence. He has defended cases brought by a number of prosecution agencies.
Daniel has regularly been consulted by the media and has been interviewed on BBC Radio 4 as well as a number of other radio stations and publications (including The Times). He has also been consulted by Hugh Pym, Chief Economics Editor for the BBC.
Daniel also represents defendants in all areas of criminal law in both the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. He also works closely with Ian Lewis and Dee Scott in defending serious fraud cases. Daniel has worked on several multi million pound fraud cases, including a multinational VAT fraud which was one of the highest value frauds ever brought to trial.
Significant Cases
- R V Tunney & Others (2009-2010) Successfully acting for a defendant in a million pound European match funding fraud.
- Operation Humidity (2007 – 2009). Successful defence of lady accused of being knowingly involved in a £1.7m VAT fraud.
- Operation Emersed (2003 - 2006) - Defending on the highest value VAT frauds, with an international dimension involving multi million pound movements of mobile phones
- R V Papworth (2003 - 2005) - Defending in a complex multi million pound fraud against O2
- R V Backry & others (2006) - Defending in a large scale credit card and banking fraud, involving serious organised crime agency surveilance, people smuggling and passport forgery
- R V Law (2007) - Representing the lead defendant in a multi national cannabis importing case involving the smuggling of over 15 tonnes of cannabis. This case involved evidence from Spain, including wire-taps and high level surveilence
- R V Nelson & Others (2006 - 2007) - Defending an allegation of fraud by a leading training provider. This was a complex matter involving an abusive process argument about the way in which the case had been prosecuted
- R V Myers (2006 - 2007) - Representing the leading defendant, having taken over the case after conviction to advise on proceeds of crime in a multi million pound cigarette smuggling operation

Daniel is married with a daughter and lives in North Manchester. He holds senior positions in two voluntary organisations and has a strong interest in Middle Eastern Politics, a subject on which he has delivered several lectures.
Daniel is a keen runner and self defence enthusiast. He is a member of Phoenix Muay Thai and Arrows Boxing Club.
